Hello everyone and welcome. February 1, 2012. Last week kris and I fished with our good friend and Captain on the charter boat ” Second chance”. Capt. Jeff has been fishing KW since 1976, and he really knows his stuff! With the SKA king fish tournament in town there was a need for bait and lots of it. So off we went Nina,Kris,Jeff, and my self spent a few late nights catching goggle eyes, there real name is” big eyed scad” they are a 6 to 10 inch bait fish, they rise up in the water column to feed at night and are taken on a sibiki rig, ”that’s a line with 6 hooks that looks like little flies on it. Goggle eyes makes one of the best live baits there is, hands down! If you pull live bait for sailfish or wahoo the goggle eyes will out perform the other baits. With that said, the SKA guys needed bait, so we sold them a bunch, at 100.00 a dozen it didn’t take long to make bait fishing at night fun!! One of the coolest things, we were fishing on top of a wreck for bait there were hundreds of thousands of big (3to5lb) blue runners swimming over the wreck the only reason we could see them was the phosphorescent, it offered enough light to see down 15 feet where the bait was swimming from 15 feet to 85 feet! pretty cool huh? The other thing was sea snakes swimming on the surface toward our lights, that was the first time i have ever seen that, that’s one of the best things about being on the ocean, you never know what you’ll see next. Fishing on the blue eyed trader. Key West has been busy down town but the chartering has been a little slow, we know the busy season is coming and soon we will be booked solid. The web site has been good with bookings coming in everyday for the months ahead, that’s a good sign, the economy is feeling like its starting to pick up a little. We have fished some trips and are catching king fish every trip some are large weighing in at 40 lbs, the largest during the tournament was 54lbs, this was the winning fish. I found out later that the third place fish came on one of our baits. Last week I fished with some friends we hooked and landed a 30 lb barracuda, a very impressive fish, if you have never seen or caught one of these guys you should come on down and let me hook you up. You can see a picture of it on my new Face Book page. Trip advisor. I know i say it all the time! but i can’t believe I’m still #1 on trip advisor. These reviews really help people feel secure in choosing the right boat to take there family’s out fishing in Key West. Kris and I ran a trip yesterday for some new friends, we caught so many fish! the kids were 15 and 12, the older one is not a fishermen, well, he is now! both of them did a great job and where rewarded with a pile of nice big mutton, gray, and yellow tail snapper. To top it all off the Cero mackerel showed up and we caught 4 of them on light tackle, one was 8 pounds. There mom and grand mom also pulled in some nice fish with a big grouper keeping the action hot. I will always love watching family’s interact with one another, it’s fun to see the smiles that parents have when there kids are having fun. I’m told that when on my boat,Kris,Nina, and I make you feel at home, that’s a really nice thing to hear from people you don’t even know. We do welcome everyone and will try hard and make you feel the love. Moving day! We are moving from Sunset marine after 4 years. The new marine is only a couple of miles away its on the south side of the island, this means more time fishing for my customers and less fuel burned. The new place has a pool and a restaurant which all my clients and friends can use. Come on down to Key West and go fishingwithron and I’ll sharpen your hooks for ya!Share
